Automate the back office.
Explain every decision.

AI agents for payment, lending and investment firms: onboarding checks, alert investigations, customer support and reporting, with a person accountable for every decision that matters.

The rules you work under.

The regulations that shape an AI system in fintech. A summary for orientation, not legal advice.

Regulations relevant to AI systems in fintech
RegulationWhat it means for an AI system
PSD2Payment Services Directive (EU) 2015/2366Payment services rules, including strong customer authentication and secure access to payment accounts. Agents that touch payments or account data work inside those controls, never around them.
MiFID IIDirective 2014/65/EUInvestment services rules, including suitability assessments and record-keeping of client orders and communications. An assistant inside an advice or order flow has to fit both.
AMLD and AMLRAnti-money-laundering directives and Regulation (EU) 2024/1624Customer due diligence, ongoing monitoring and reporting of suspicious transactions. AI can gather and summarise evidence; the obligation to assess and report stays with you.
DORADigital Operational Resilience Act, Regulation (EU) 2022/2554Applies to financial entities since 17 January 2025: ICT risk management, incident reporting, resilience testing and oversight of ICT third-party providers, which includes the AI services you depend on.
GDPR Article 22Regulation (EU) 2016/679People have the right not to be subject to decisions based solely on automated processing with legal or similarly significant effects, such as refusing credit, without safeguards that include human intervention.
EU AI Act, Annex III 5(b)Regulation (EU) 2024/1689Creditworthiness assessment and credit scoring of individuals are high-risk from 2 December 2027. AI used to detect financial fraud is excluded from that category.

Examples

Illustrative starting points. Each one keeps a person in charge of the decisions that matter.

  • Onboarding document checks

Reads identity and company documents, checks them against your onboarding rules, and prepares a file for a compliance analyst to approve.

  • Alert investigation support

Gathers context on alerts from your monitoring system and drafts a case summary, so analysts spend their time deciding rather than searching.

  • Customer support agent

Answers account and payment questions from your help content, says plainly that it is an AI, and hands over to a person for anything sensitive.

  • Reporting preparation

Pulls data from your systems into the formats your reports need, with validation checks and an audit trail, ready for review.

  • Credit file preparation

Collects and summarises applicant documents for a credit officer. The officer, not the model, makes the decision.

Credit scoring is high-risk from 2 December 2027.

Life and health insurance pricing and credit scoring are high-risk under Annex III from 2 December 2027. Fraud detection is excluded from the credit-scoring category, and customer-facing agents have needed AI disclosure since 2 August 2026.

Check where your system falls

Common questions.

Can AI help with anti-money-laundering work without making the decision?

Yes, and that is how we would build it. Agents gather context, check documents and draft case summaries; analysts decide and file. Every step is logged, so you can show a supervisor how each case was handled.

Is fraud detection high-risk under the EU AI Act?

Annex III point 5(b) covers creditworthiness assessment and credit scoring of individuals, and it excludes AI used to detect financial fraud. Customer-facing agents still need Article 50 disclosure, which has applied since 2 August 2026. Our AI Act checker gives a first orientation; it is not legal advice.

Where does financial data live?

In your environment. We work in your cloud accounts and EU regions where possible, and personal data is processed under a data processing agreement.
